At Home Movie Themed Night

I love a good movie night with my husband but add decorations, snacks/food and it becomes one of my favorite type of date nights! One of the best things about it is I’m able to get creative with the food served and of course how the food is named to match the setting. Whether you are planning a date night or a movie night with friends, check out the below three tips for planning the night.

Tips and Tricks:

  • Music: One of the easiest ways to bring you and your guests into the world you are about to watch is putting on music in the room before starting the movie and while everyone is arriving.
    • Going back in time by watching a classic 80’s movie (Footloose, Top Gun, Dirty Dancing, etc.) – Flip on that decades top music! 80’s has some great music so shameless plug for a few of the bands I grew up hearing: Guns and Roses, ZZ Top, and Bon Jovi

  • Decorations: There is no need to spend lots of money on decorations. Use what you have or DIY some options.
    • Photo Slideshow on the TV of the movies setting before the movie starts (New Zealand for Lord of the Rings, Space for Star Wars)
    • If you have small battery powered lights, cutting colored paper into a shape and taping on the lights will add a great ambiance. (Charlie Brown Thanksgiving -> Leaves or Turkey, Frozen -> Snowflakes)

  • Food: In my opinion it all comes down to two things when it comes to food: Presentation or Naming
    • Presentation
      • Gold Coins for Super Mario Bros or Pirates of the CaribbeanMini Chocolate Donuts with white frosting rims for Fast and the Furious
    • Naming
      • Tea-Rex -> Iced Tea for a Jurassic Park theme
      • Severusset steak -> Baked Potato for a Harry Potter theme
