We couldn’t help ourselves when we saw these cute teddy bear cookies! With Christmas only a few days away, we were excited to make a little toy lookalike cookie in the famous gingerbread flavor. While it may not be as fancy as when Queen Elizabeth I would make gingerbread characters for her honorary guests, these little bears are too adorable not to try. These cookies are prepping me for the next holiday activity tonight with my fiancé, gingerbread house decorating!

These gingerbread teddy bears are such a fun activity for little kids! The trick was that we used 3 different sizes cookie scoops to make our lives easier. We made these with my nephew and it was a blast!

Gingerbread Cutout Cookies

Happy December Eve everyone! I hope you are all as excited as I am for the upcoming month leading up to Christmas. I was so excited for the traditions to begin that I decided to make this Gingerbread Cutout Cookie while we put up our Christmas tree. It might be a little out of eagerness for the upcoming 12 days of cookies tradition! While the house filled with the sweet smell of spiced cookies, we happily sang along to Christmas music and decorated. Normally we don’t have gingerbread cookies during the tree setup but I’m sensing a new tradition!

Christmas Cookies in July – Gingerbread Crackle

Christmas in July got brought to a new level last year when my mom and I made cookies while wearing our matching Christmas baking shirts and sang along to all the great holiday songs. We could smell the foundation of a new tradition right along with the root beer (Make sure to check out the Root Beer Sandwich Cookies from last year)! This year we planned on making the “Christmas Cookies in July” on July 25^th, exactly 6 months or 153 days until Christmas! But who’s counting right? 😉 That’s exactly what we did, but in all the crafting and baking from the weekend this post got delayed a few days. Now it’s 151 days until Christmas, so even better news for a Monday!

We played around a lot with making a summer flavored cookie like orange creamsicle or lemon. What we landed on screams Christmas, a gingerbread cookie. This Gingerbread Crackle Cookie is the spiced equivalent of my favorite chocolate crackle cookies. I’m tough on my gingerbread cookie rating and this one exceeded my expectations!

Gingerbread Love

Whoever created gingerbread is a genius! Thankfully for everyone on this blog, my other passion is history so I went on a quick research adventure to learn more about the spiced treat (While of course snacking on some gingerbread of my own). Although ginger originates in Asia, most of the credit to today’s popularized “gingerbread” flavors seems to be by the Europeans in the middle ages. Elizabeth I is mostly credited with decorating cookies into “gingerbread men” after having some made that resembled guests. Even better, George Washington’s mother, served gingerbread to the Marquis de Lafayette and the confection was passed down for generations in the family (I recently finished Washington by Ron Chernow so this fact made me quite excited to learn).
