I recently accepted the finance manager position at my work and I can tell you one thing is for sure… at least half of my days are spent in meetings. Between my time being compressed with additional meetings, and onboarding a new employee on my team; it has been extra stressful to get my work done. So how am I making it through? My tips are below on how I manage my stress during work hours!
Take a quick walk: You have been staring at the computer for what feels like forever or received an email with an unreasonable turnaround time. Trust me, these things happen to everyone. The best thing to do is to take a walk. It doesn’t need to be long but moving away from the screen for even 5 minutes will do wonders for your mental state.
Close out your email: Emails are such a great thing. Working with international markets, it allows me to communicate and follow-up without being on a call every night. However, if you let them, emails can drag down your productivity substantially. Try closing out your email for an hour or two each day to work on projects without being pulled away with each email.
Make friends: I met one of my close friends at my current job. She is in a different department but most of my walks end up being chats with her (sometimes a coffee run on our lunch hours is a must). Making time for friends is the same advice I give outside of work. Friends are such an important part of life and let’s be honest, they help to relieve stress whether it’s through joking or letting you just vent.
