LOVE – Large Scrabble Decoration

In scrabble, PASSION is worth 9 points, FOREVER is worth 13 points, and LOVE is worth only 7 points. In life, love is worth all of the points though! Thanks for letting me be cheesy there for a minute, I couldn’t help myself! Scrabble is such a fun game to play and the tiles have inspired countless creators to make signs, represent family trees, and even make a giant version of the game for outdoors. Spoiler: I googled it, the oversized game exists and is now added as a project I want for the summer.

It feels like it has been around forever but it was created by an out of work architect during the Great Depression – Alfred Mosher Butts. It started out with different names but they settled on the name Scrabble. It means to grasp, collect or hold onto something which is fitting for the game. Before I keep collecting words (the puns keep coming) on this post, check out more of the history on scrabble here. Even better, check out how I made this scrabble decoration below!

Lanterns Fit for an Emperor

My brother-in-law will sometimes come up with eccentric ideas. Some are on the mellow end with a Polar Plunge; then there was the idea he had for his 35th birthday a few weeks back. He decided to have a royal event complete with long ball gowns topped with tiaras, and a royal court. When he first proposed the idea, I’m not sure any of us really knew what to expect but the entire evening turned out beautiful.

One of the items I helped with was the centerpieces. We wanted to keep it whimsical but also centered around the man of the event. The lanterns for my wedding were repurposed to have the silhouette of my brother in law on the 4 sides and placed on every table. Combined with some flowers, lights, and a few butterflies, the centerpieces were truly fit to celebrate an emperor.

I did the silhouette in Cricut design space, but if you have access/knowledge of Photoshop that will work as well. I started with a side profile of him, and during the import process, made sure to remove the background and selected only cut before the import process was complete. It will give you an option to print then cut but only the outline was needed for this project.

The Perfect Blend – Coffee Wedding Favors

We are so happy and very lucky that we were able to have a wedding with all of our close family and friends in attendance. Wedding favors are the perfect way to send guests home a little personalized message of “we appreciate that you came”. Below is what we did but there are so many great ideas out there! Make it unique to who you are as a couple or incorporate a special memory. My husband and I had our first date at a coffee shop, so we brought that coffee (same shop!) back to our wedding day as our favor.

Comment with what you did for your favors (or what you want to do one day).

Thanksgiving Themed Brunch

With the leaves falling outside, my husband and I hosted our first brunch married! If you are new to the blog, we do a brunch with my husband’s family where we rotate who hosts monthly. It’s been a tradition since June of 2019 with no end in sight. This was our first November brunch hosting so of course we took inspiration from Thanksgiving dinner! The tastes, smells, feelings of Thanksgiving were in our minds as we started to brainstorm ideas. I truly believe this was the best brunch we have put on yet! The food was delicious, I mean is there anything better than Pecan Pie French Toast??

Below is our menu (complete with our actual stuffing recipe from Thanksgiving made into stuffins), and how we arranged our table.

The place cards are compliments of Cricut! Super easy and fun to make. Search “Thanksgiving” on Cricut design space and you will find it.

Wedding Welcome Sign

After months of promising some exciting projects for the wedding, I FINALLY get to share! Figuring out the signs for a wedding can be a little daunting since it is a huge piece of what the guests would be guided by, accent the other decorations, and have to hold up as their own decoration as well. Luckily I knew from the start what kind of sign I wanted, a beautiful acrylic sign with painted brush strokes and elegant mixed with fun writing. If you aren’t sure what you want your signs to look like, Pinterest is filled with unique and fun ideas! I loaded up on acrylic sheets (some of which I ordered larger and cut down to the size I want but I’ll get into that later) and now the hardest part, deciding on the paint and font color that would be used everywhere. No pressure right? Thankfully, while wandering through a Michaels craft store the paint popped out at me. I am telling you right now that outdoor venue, deep fall colors, and copper acrylic signs = complete perfection.

Loads of Love Valentines Sign

After taking down large amount of Christmas decorations in January, our plan was to put up Valentines to fill some of the empty space. The sad realization that we only have two decorations for the holiday quickly sat in. For a while now I’ve been wanting to use a pickup truck in a decoration. With this lack of Valentines décor in our house, I decided the two would make a perfect pairing. This loads of love sign was the result and it turned out exactly like I pictured!

I did make this with my Cricut machine. Let me know if you are interested in this being put as a digital download for purchase on Etsy! Make sure to follow me here on WordPress but also on Instagram and now YouTube with our same name, Take2Create.

I was torn about whether to do red hearts and lettering or the black glitter hearts and lettering. Read more to see how they looked side by side in my design space before I decided!

Seasoned with LOVE

This last weekend we really embraced the Cricut machine and this is one of three projects that we made with it. You read that right, we have two more coming your way shortly! This cute little aluminum container was a find at Michaels (Hello 70% off? Yes Please!), and a red removable vinyl Cricut sheet. This has been a thought for a few months now but we couldn’t find the perfect sized metal basket until now. We filled it with oils, balsamic vinegars, salt, and pepper – this kitchen is seasoned with LOVE.
