Pina Colada Love Sign

“If you like Pina Colada’s, and getting caught in the rain” I sang this on repeat in my head as I made this sign for the apartment. Even that first line makes me sing as I read along, anyone else? For me, that song screams summer and let’s be honest, Pina Colada’s are summer in a cup. I felt inspired by the Pina Colada I had on vacation last weekend poolside. With the sign being for the apartment, I also wanted to make it a little shout out to love. A walked into the local craft store looking to combine love and pineapples (ironically the same combination for the delicious beverage) and stumbled upon the walnut pallet sign. The hanger was meant to have the sign be horizontal but I knew by turning it vertical I could make a cute pineapple and include my quote. I gathered the other supplies needed and when I got home, quickly began to sketch out the pineapple outline. Wait… where is my Pina Colada while I do this project? Oh well, HELLO SUMMER!

First Apartment Ornament

Every time my boyfriend and I go on a trip together, we bring back an ornament as a souvenir. It’s a tradition we started on our first trip to Disneyland and it’s stuck ever since. With our third anniversary, I wanted to tie in our sweet tradition to his gift. It will likely be one of my favorite ornaments on the tree this year because it commemorates a big (and wonderful) year in our relationship.

Quick Burlap Bunny Craft

It has been so busy lately that some craft time was very much needed for both of us. We wanted to fit one more craft in before Easter and we did, but this post unfortunately didn’t make it before Easter. This burlap bunny is rustic, fun, and super quick to make (Even the pom pom tail)! Not only did we do this craft within an hour, we had all of the supplies we needed at the house. We finished the craft early enough to make some Italian Easter Bread and relax before the Easter Bunny made his visits on Saturday night.BurlapBunny Continue reading “Quick Burlap Bunny Craft”

Hop Hop Hooray, It’s Easter Wreaths

Is there anything more satisfying than taking items that apart are nothing but together can make something so beautiful? (I feel like the main girl in the Hallmark movie Christmas in Love writing out that line and I love it!) For me, creating will make any day better and I feel completely in my element. Nine times out of ten, the project I start with, is not the one I end up with either. There are adjustments, recalculations along the way but in the end what I’ve made is new and exciting. With Easter a few weeks away, we decided to start the month off with an Easter Wreath craft.

Top of the Morning to You

Thanks everyone for understanding the delay in this post! I couldn’t miss a chance to talk about how our St. Patrick’s Day went even if it was a little late.

Growing up my family got really into holidays. For St. Patrick’s Day, I would wake up to little green feet leading me to a pot of gold with candy. To surprise my boyfriend on St. Patrick’s Day morning and for my mom to surprise my Dad, we decided to get a little nostalgic and do something similar. We used the Hershey’s Gold candy bars and found a whiskey coffee from Death Wish Coffee to create the loot. Then we found this garland leprechaun hat at the local craft store. We cut out some little feet from green construction paper that was handy so all we had to do was set it all up in the morning before our guys got up.

St. Patricks Day Treat

For dinner I made an Irish Beef Stew, Irish Soda Bread and Colcannon Potatoes. I wish I took some photos but we didn’t even think of it at the time!

Hope you all had a great St. Patrick’s Day!

Luck Of the Irish – Pallet Sign

Even though much of St. Patrick’s Day history is rooted in religion, modern times allow for more celebration of Irish traditions. The last two years my boyfriend and I have spent the holiday on vacation and seen how San Diego and San Francisco celebrates St. Patrick’s Day. This year we aren’t going anywhere but I definitely have some surprises up my sleeve. While we don’t have any plans for an Ireland trip (Yet! It’s my dream vacation and I look up flights at least monthly), I figured let’s have some fun decorating and try creating a classic dish or two.

Car Themed Gift Arrangement

Happy Valentine’s Day! One of my favorite things to do for Valentine’s is to create a unique experience or gift for my sweetheart. Side note, shout out to my wonderful boyfriend! My boyfriend is absolutely incredible and I think about how lucky I am to be with him daily. Even though everyday feels like Valentine’s with him because of how much he spoils me, Valentine’s Day is still a special day for us. This year I wanted to do something fun that ties in with another one of his favorite things – Cars. I wanted to try to create a car cleaning arrangement and it turned out so fun!

Heart Shaped Treat Boxes

First of all, Happy Galantine’s Day to all the women out there! This fun holiday was created when the main character, Leslie Knopp, celebrated it on the TV show Parks and Recreation. Galentine’s Day took off in popularity after it aired. The day is meant to be women celebrating women and I am all for that! I hope that everyone reached out to their girlfriends and let them know how much you value their friendship and maybe schedule a girl’s night out from it. I know I reached out and sent my friends some good vibes.

These treat boxes would be perfect as a gift to your girlfriends on Galentine’s Day or a sweet after dinner gift for your honey. Best of all? They are so fun, easy, and inexpensive to make!

Sweethearts Wreath

Walking down the aisles of a store from January to mid-February is a bombardment of Valentines gifts, colors, and candies. Tucked away in the aisle is also a piece of nostalgia… Sweethearts. The chalky hard candies with phrases from “Call Me” to “Be Mine” (or the newer additions like “Text Me”) bring back sweet childhood memories.

The candies have evolved quite a bit from the original form. The Smithsonian describes that the candy maker Necco created a version of the current treat when the company started in 1847. It started out as a scalloped shell with a paper fortune in the middle. The red writing was added 14 years later in 1861 by the founder’s brother who invented a machine that could press red vegetable dye into the candy. The shape went through many different forms before settling into its heart shaped delight in the early 1900’s. Even though they have made adjustments to the phrases and flavors, Sweethearts still hold a sentimental place in my Valentines memories.sweethearts_wreath Continue reading “Sweethearts Wreath”

Minty Fresh Christmas Cookies

It’s 8 days before Christmas and my dreams are in cookies. After this recipe, tonight I hope to drift off to powdered sugar capped mountains filled with giant versions of these peppermint cookies. My dad loves candy canes, but more specifically his favorite are the green and red striped peppermint ones. He says they aren’t ripe until they have both the green and red stripes (I think it might be his favorite too because they look extra festive with both bold colors). In my dreamy candy world, you can be sure that ripe candy canes grow everywhere like weeds.
